I am here to help you reach your Real Estate goals. I’ve sold a wide variety of property types, from single-family-homes to commercial and multi-purpose properties. I appreciate living near the beach, and our City’s central location to LA and Orange county activities. I know the territory, the inventory and the great benefits of living and working in the Southern California area! I’ve been selling real estate in the Long Beach area for over 30 years.

Breakers Hotel

I moved to Long Beach in 1989 to be a part of the City’s redevelopment and rehabilitation of it’s historic downtown area. In that pursuit, I volunteered my time with many organizations and activities including DLBA, the Historical Society, Kiwanis of Downtown Long Beach, LB Heritage and others. But the high point of those efforts led me to be the broker on the buyer’s acquisition team for the Breakers Hotel closing at the end of 2017!

MOLAA

Around 1994, I took a listing on a warehouse-type property in Downtown Long Beach that I thought I would still have listed to this day. The eccentric owner told me a little of the history of the property, and my further research found the property to be the last bastion of the old Balboa Amusement Company. I notified the local paper as a way to promote my new listing, and they did a story on it. This brought the attention of local philanthropist Dr. Robert Gumbiner, (founder of FHP Healthcare,) and he bought it quickly to use as part of his planned museum. He already owned the famed Hypodrome, and over the years, as agent and broker, I helped him acquire more than a dozen more properties that make up the Museum’s campus today!

Power Poles

Acquiring properties for the Museum was not the only work I did for Gumbiner. I worked for him as his Director of Real Estate in the late ’90’s, which included management of apartment buildings, development of the Museum and various special projects. One special project was his idea to bury the old creosote power poles in front of his house and along two blocks of The Toledo in the Naples neighborhood of Long Beach. With his money and charm, and my efforts, we organized 30+ neighbors to all pitch-in/pay to get these things under grounded. It was like a (literally) 10-year escrow coordinating all the neighbors, the Utilities that used the poles, the contractors, the City and the monies, to get this project completed. It was gratifying to me that all that effort resulted in making one of Long Beach’s best streets and neighborhoods, still better!

Goodwill

The sale of those no-tell motels to Goodwill: It was very early in my career, and a friend at Kiwanis, (who was on the board at Goodwill Industries at the time,) told me about that group’s frustration in not being able to talk the owner’s of the motels next door into selling. He asked me if I’d give it a shot. The owners were a young couple that had a pretty good business going there, and they had zero interest in selling. We talked for several months, and eventually we came to a number that worked for everyone. That’s not so unusual in a real estate transaction, but the lessons I learned from it were monumental to me. Among them, ‘no’ doesn’t mean ‘no’ forever. Don’t be intimidated by properties or projects that seem out of your area of expertise. And when you have a client that is ready, willing and able, there is nothing you cannot do!

The Friendships

The friendships and people I’ve met along the way in my Long Beach real estate career: It’s always about the people! I’ve sold everything from 1 bedroom condominiums, all the way up to that aforementioned hotel, and everything in between. I’ve sold tenant-in-common interests in 300 unit apartment buildings, historic houses in Bluff Park and parcels of land, (one smaller than most driveways.) But it’s always the good, honest and trustworthy people that were at the heart of these deals that I value the most!
